Standard Setters

Standard Setters
(Jacob McGowen)

1st Verse:
They were a threat to the system
The church of Jesus Christ
In its early days
They stood for Him and His Kingdom
And the Empire of Rome
Sought to quench their flame
They endured great persecution
And they remembered all
The words that their Lord did say
They longed for Heaven’s reunion
Though it seemed so close
And so far away
And in spite of everything, they

Chorus:
They set the standard for a martyr
They set the standard for a friend
For they followed daily their Lord Jesus
And modeled all of His attributes to the end

REPEAT 2X

2nd Verse:
Just o’er 2,000 years later
That once small local church
Has spread far and wide
Throughout the tribes, tongues, and nations
Are souls allegiant to
The one living Christ
And yet there remains a difference
Between those in the fight
And on the sidelines
For all are called to surrender
Just as the early church
Did for Christ and to

2nd Chorus:
Live their life without agendas
And share the gospel without fear
And stand for the values that He treasures
And be a vessel for Him here

REPEAT 2X

Bridge:
Not all who say to Him Lord, Lord, Lord
Will one day reach Heaven’s shore
But if you do His will and He is your King
In glory, you shall know Him more

3rd Chorus:
So, live your life out as a witness
Press on, through all the trials you face
And know that as the martyrs modeled
You can with Christ live life in faith
