Bit of Bible

1st Verse:
Old Ms. Yolanda Lee
Was our maid back in ’53
Worked in the mornings till the evening times
She washed our clothes and made our beds
And when needed saw that we were fed
Without a tear in her eyes
She’d listen to a preacher on her radio
Every morning, every night
And we would ask her
What Bible verse could help us
Then, she would smile and testify

1st Chorus:
She said, “Baby, a bit of Bible
Will help you a time or two
But if you want the Lord to guide you
You got to know the whole thing through!”

2nd Verse:
And as we grew older
She taught us the Bible
And we found our faith
But our parents were stubborn
And set in their cruel and selfish ways
One day she was fired
And we cried for her to never leave
Yet, before she did leave us
She gathered us close and then she said…

“Babies, I’ll always love you
Stay close to the Lord above
Honor your parents daily
And live a life of love.”

Many years later
Ms. Yolanda was walking to church outside
And within a moment
She fell to her knees
And then was with Christ
Not too long after
We buried her in a green and wondrous field
With tears and in union
Our family then all did say…

We just want you to know
We all do know the Lord now
And we share a living hope
We’re sorry for how we hurt you
But grateful for the love you showed
