Maybe This Time (This Christmas)

Maybe This Time (This Christmas)
(Jacob R. McGowen)

[1st Verse]
The shops are barren this time every single year
But they’re a little more abandoned now, I fear
For it’s not food but also gifts that people buy
And knick-knacks to endure this thing that we call life

[Pre-Chorus]
I work all day, come home and hear a lot of noise
From my sons fighting and my wife raising her voice
The clock is ticking towards December 25th
And I don’t know how we will pay all of our bills…

[Chorus]
But maybe this time this Christmas
There’ll be laughter and so much joy
I’ll get along with my wife and my kids will like their toys
And maybe this time this Christmas I’ll forget all of my fears
Maybe this time this Christmas we’ll have hope throughout the year
Maybe this time this Christmas we’ll have hope throughout the year

[2nd Verse]
The years have flown by and
My home’s an empty nest
And I confess I miss seeing both of my kids
But they ignore the calls my wife and I give them
And never care to see how we have been

[Pre-Chorus]
As we’ve grown older
We have come to know the Lord
And yet we grieve that our kids
Go to church no more
But as a snowflake falls outside our window sill
The hope of Christmas changes how we now do feel…

[2nd Chorus]
Maybe this time this Christmas our sons will both come home
They’ll come to know Lord Jesus and we’ll laugh the whole day long
Maybe this time this Christmas we’ll work through our pain and tears
Maybe this time this Christmas we’ll promise to stay near
Maybe this time this Christmas we’ll promise to stay near

[3rd Verse]
My wife she left us before Christmas last year
And how I’ve cried and cried
And shed a flood of tears
I lie awake and ill upon a sick man’s bed
And think of what comes next
And of the life I’ve led

[Pre-Chorus]
But who is that I see within my doorway?
My sons are here now to support me and to pray
And when they say that they both now love the Lord
I can now rest in peace and walk through Heavens door

[Outro]
Who would have known this Christmas
My sons would know the Lord
And have a wife and kids that they could lead to know Him more
And who would have known this Christmas
We would all be made free
To live out all our days in praise to our Savior King
To live out all our days in praise to our Savior King
