Hope of Christmas

Hope of Christmas
(Jacob McGowen)

1st Verse:
He went to the temple
Most every morning
He stared at the endless
Starry skies
And night after night
At times he wondered
If the King would ever arrive
Yet, on a day unlike the others
He saw a couple with an infant child

And he didn’t doubt
He simply shouted
Said, “I have seen with my own eyes!”
“Now in peace, I can die!”

1st Chorus:
It was the hope of Christmas Day!
For Messiah’s birth that he did pray!
And he believed though he did wait!
It was the hope of Christmas Day!
It was the hope of Christmas Day!

2nd Verse:
She cleaned the house
She held herself together
Knew everything had its own space
Yet, her greatest joy came in the evenings
When her son came home from work and play

He talked of building with his father
He loved to play in the sand
Yet, every time she kissed his cheek
She remembered
Why her child was born to live
The calling that He had on Him

2nd Chorus:
It was the gift of Christmas Day!
That God first trusted them to raise
For their son had a world to change
It was the gift of Christmas Day!
It was the gift of Christmas Day!

3rd Verse:
He had his friends
A band of brothers
Who followed Him, Lord Jesus Christ
Yet, out of all of them
One doubted
Said, “If He’s risen, then I need proof!”

Then by mighty power He returned to them

A living Lord, the way and Truth

And though he still had doubt within him
Said, “Thomas, I stand before you!”
“You wanted proof… Well, I’m the Truth!”

3rd Chorus:
Oh, glorious Resurrection Day!
When Christ rose up from hell and grave!
His blood covered all sin and shame!
Things truly changed on that holy day!
And, Jesus waits for you today!

Throughout all time, one thing stands true!
He’s the greatest gift, the Hope, the Truth!
